Wayne Rooney update

Soccer superstar balder Rooney has just announced on twitter that he has undergone hair transplant surgery.

It's still a bit bruised and swollen when it dies down u will be first to see it. Anyone recommend any good hair gel. Haha
I had it done in Harley street hair clinic London. Thanks to all the staff who looked after me.


I am a bit surprised by this, as I didn't think Rooney would make a good candidate for transplant surgery. He is practically a norwood 4 at the young age of 25, which usually means the balding is aggressive and will continue. Although no one can predict the future, I would hazard a guess that he would have reached a norwood 6 by the time he was 40. Various sources claimed Rooney was taking medication such as propecia too, which have unfortunately for him not seemed to have worked.


This means that eventually, his baldness will catch up with his transplant, leaving gaps of hair and a very odd looking result. Future operations will be necessary to counter this, which should not be a problem financially for the millionaire Rooney.


But he will eventually run out of donor hair, no matter how much money he has. I can only hope Rooney was made aware of this before undergoing the procedure, and I would question the ethics of anywhere that didn't make this clear to him.


New Update : Here's the first picture of his new hairline. It is still healing and will take several months to grow back properly.


Norwood Rating : his new results have yet to be seen, but he will be hoping to have gone from a 4a to a 2.

Manchester United

Chelsea may have won an historic treble this year (Premier League, FA Cup and Most Balding Team) but Manchester United were a close runner up in both the Premier League and Balding Team categories.

I have previously mentioned Ryan Giggs and Wayne Rooney, so let's take a look at some of the rest of their squad.



Gary Neville, receding slightly but this is to be expected for a man of his advanced years and could just be a 'mature hairline'.



Wes Brown. Ok he's not balding particularly badly, I just wanted to mention his ginger afro.



Paul Scholes, the baby-faced old man. Again, a bit of baldness is expected for someone his age.



Darron Gibson, notable bald patch. And yes, he does spell his name 'Darron'. Gaelic, apparently.



Gabriel Obertan, receding and diffuse thinning.



Dimitar Berbatov, the manner of his defection from Tottenham earned him the nickname 'The Bald Judas'.



They do also have a young player called Oliver Norwood who somewhat ironically shows no sign of balding.

So, not quite as high a percentage of balding players as Chelsea, and this may have had some effect on the title race. I would advise Sir Alex Ferguson to make sure his next few signings are balding in some way if he wants to win the Premiership next year. Maybe he should go for Joe Cole or Arjen Robben.

Ryan Giggs Update

I thought Ryan Giggs' hair had been looking a bit better recently. He has been spotted leaving the clinic of Advanced Hair Studio in Manchester, and is apparently undergoing some sort of treatment there.



A couple of newspapers report that he is receiving laser therapy from them. I had a look on the company's website and they describe this course of treatment :

"Regrow your hair with the powerful combination of: the latest laser beam technology, an FDA approved regrowth pharmaceutical, and a proven scalp and follicle treatment program. Visible benefits can occur in 3 months."

In other words, this is a treatment of finasteride, minoxidil and low level laser therapy.

The papers claim he is paying £6000 for this treatment, which is surprising given that a years supply of the drugs can be purchased on the internet for less than £100 and a laser comb, which is of dubious effectiveness anyway, can be bought for a similar price.

I would advise anyone who is not a multi-millionaire like Mr. Giggs to do your research before paying out such ridiculously inflated prices for these commonly available hair loss products.

Ryan Giggs

Another Manchester United player who has slowly been balding. As a young man he was famed for his thick black wavy hair.



Baldness seemed to catch up with him in his late 20s, starting with slight recession at the temples.




Soon after, the dreaded bald patch on the crown started to appear. Photos are fairly hard to come by, but the patch was unmissable when watching him play on television.



However, in recent times the bald patch seems to have made a retreat. It is certainly less noticeable than 3 years ago, when it was at it's worst. A concealer seems unlikely, given the rain and sweat a professional sportsman has to cope with, so maybe he is on some sort of medication.



Anyway, from the front at least, his hair looks pretty good for a 36 year old.

Wayne Rooney

The 24 year old Manchester United player has been noticeably balding since his teens.



According to tabloid reports, some of his team mates started calling him Bobby Charlton, the footballing legend famed for his combover.



Finasteride is no longer a banned substance under the World Anti-doping Agency and Rooney is believed to have started using it.



While it won't bring back his childhood head of hair, it should stabilise his hair loss enough to stop the Bobby Charlton jibes.
Incidentally Rooney has scored a lot of goals from headers this season, and recently said "I’m still working on my heading. But probably the goals are all coming off my bald patch! That’s helping me to score."
